The Summit County Library, in partnership with the Sustainability Division of the Health Department, now offers interactive toolkits to practice energy and water conservation and efficiency at home!
Learn how energy and water is used in your home and check out tools to practice resource conservation!
The interactive Energy Detective Kit helps residents perform an energy assessment of energy usage in their home. The take-home Conservation kit provides items for residents to install that will increase their home’s energy and water efficiency while also saving money on utility bills.
Using energy and water efficiently is a simple yet effective way to reduce the consumption of resources while also reducing household costs! Additionally, in Summit County, minimizing energy and water usage will play an increasing role in building a more resilient community. The Energy & Water Saving Toolkits are an opportunity to increase awareness of resource consumption and how this consumption translates to utility costs.
Try out induction cooking with the Induction Cooktop Kits—now available for patrons in the Summit County Library system. This kit offers a portable induction cooktop, magnets to test the compatibility of your cookware and resources to learn more about the benefits of electric and induction appliances.
Switching from a gas or electric stove to an induction appliance improves your home’s indoor air quality while saving energy and money!
Health: Electric and induction cooking is safer for our health, especially children’s. When you use a gas stove, it emits pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a respiratory irritant known to trigger asthma, and benzene, a carcinogen also found in cigarette smoke. Electric cooking offers an easy way to avoid pollutants inside your home and protect indoor air quality.
Environment: Electric stoves run on electricity from the grid which is increasingly being powered by renewable energy. The efficiency of an induction cooktop also means the appliance requires less energy than a traditional gas or electric cooktop which supports resource conservation.
Economic: Induction cooktops are an estimated 5-10% more efficient than conventional electric resistance units and about three times more efficient than gas models. This efficiency can lead to lower utility bills, meaning this appliance can save energy and money.
